Arizona Slip and Falls and The Recovery Process

Arizona slip and falls can cause very serious and permanent injuries. Falls can result in a dangerous accident that can cause permanent damage and even wrongful deaths. Treatment of the injuries and complications associated with these falls can also be very costly. Falls can occur anytime, anyplace, and to anyone while at home or working. 60 percent of falls occur at home, 30 percent occur in the community, and 10 percent occur at institutions such as hospitals and nursing homes. Many of these falls happen because another entity or person created a dangerous condition. But for that dangerous condition the fall never would have occurred. When this happens, there is an at-fault party and under the law the at-fault party can be held responsible for paying for the pain and suffering, medical bills, future medical bills, and other compensatory damages of the person who was hurt.

Falls can be a major life changing event, decreasing mobility and independence. People and companies should examine their premises and make sure that they are creating a safe environment for people who come to their establishment or for people who are working in the area.

After someone falls, panic may be their first reaction. A person that has fallen should take several deep breathes, and asses the situation. If a person believes they are hurt, they should not move and instead call 911. A person should try to fall on their side or buttocks and roll over naturally turning their head in the direction of the roll. If a person can, they should crawl to a strong stable piece of furniture and pull them self up. They should slowly begin to rise and bend whichever knee is stronger keeping the other knee on the floor. Many times when a person falls because of a dangerous condition, they are in shock and will not know what to do. Hopefully, if a bystander watches the person fall and is able to they can help the injured victim by calling 911.

After getting to the hospital a doctor will examine the person for injuries. The doctor may ask for an X-ray or MRI depending on the severity of the fall. Non surgical and surgical treatment is available for those that have been injured during a fall. Recovering from a fall may require bed rest and physical therapy. A doctor will frequently X-ray a patient to make sure that their injuries sustained during a fall have healed properly.
